It was the TVS Apache in 2006, followed by the stunning new Apache RTR that has made quite a wave in the market and we're soon anticipating the hyper-tuned version of the already powerful RTR, the TVS Apache RTR Performance Package. Here are the quick stats:
160cc, 18bhp, power-to-weight ratio: 112.5bhp/litre (as compared to 95bhp/litre for RTR, 93bhp/litre for Apache and 90bhp/litre for the Bajaj Pulsar 220!).
That's incredible specifications! And, I've not started talking about the other impressive features like twin petal discs, yet! TVS has revealed that it has incorporated the following mods to make the RTR Performance Package what it is: high-lift cam, free-flow exhaust and air filter, ECU re-map and possibly some tweaking to the intake system.
This article will look at how the above mods can squeeze out an extra 3bhp from the same engine:
HIGH-LIFT CAM: When a revised camshaft makes the intake valve to open to a larger length, it's called a high-lift cam. The logic here is to pack more charge into the cylinder by lowering the valve obstruction factor. It must be noted here that the time period through which the charge enters the cylinder is effectively increased.
FREE-FLOW DEVICES: Lesser the obstruction to filling up the cylinder with its diet, so much the better. The same holds true for driving out the combustion products. That's why kitting out an engine with after-market exhaust systems and free-er flowing air filters is one of the most popular ways of bumping up the power.
ECU RE-MAP: The ECU is responsible for spark timing, deciding the timing and quantity of fuel flow and altering these settings accordingly to suit the power demands or to compensate for abnormal combustion situations. The power and torque curves can also be varied to a greater extent by "mapping" the ECU suitably.
INTAKE SYSTEM: The length and shape of the inlet duct can go a long way in deciding how much power is developed and how it is delivered. For the start, shorter the inlet port, more is the power that can be possibly developed--assuming other factors remain constant.

informative! bdw wats the expansion of RTR
Thanks! RTR is the acronym for "Racing Throttle Response". It's just a fancy name that implies that the bike is more inclined towards perofrmance.
oooooooh!
